RIDING BIKES THROUGH COPENHAGEN W/ ALEC MAJERUS, LOUIE LOPEZ, COLLIN PROVOST, RUNE GLIFBERG
THE SKATE TEAM TRADES SKATEBOARDS FOR BIKES TO TOUR THROUGH COPENHAGEN, DENMARK WITH A STOP AT THE HIPPIE FREETOWN OF CHRISTIANIA The Volcom Skate Team recently traveled to Copenhagen, Denmark for the CPH Pro and found some spare time after the contest, so they decided to hang out with local legend and longtime Volcom team rider Rune Glifberg for a couple days to get the true Copenhagen experience on two wheels before getting an authentic Copenhagen canal tour. RIDING BIKES IN COPENHAGEN There really is something magical about Copenhagen, Denmark. Chris Pfanner, Arto Saari, Louie Lopez and Alec Majerus all mentioned, at one point or another, that the city and people of Copenhagen really have it figured out. Not only is Copenhagen one of the cleanest cities in the world, but it is also one of the healthiest. One of the main reasons is that the infrastructure is designed to promote a pedestrian and cycling culture rather than driving. Normally on skate trips, the crew packs into a van and drives to a spot and skates for hours. In Copenhagen, you travel by bike like a pack of wolves. As Alec pointed out, "Biking around from spot to spot is fun and keeps your legs warm." A perfect activity for skateboarders.   WHERE TO RENT BIKES IN COPENHAGEN In Copenhagen, the majority of people ride a bike, and if you want to embrace the city as the locals do, you'll want to rent a bike from one of the many establishments located throughout the city. Whether it's a touchscreen-enabled, navigation-friendly bike from Bycyklen, a simple city bike you can access on the street 24/7 from Donkey Republic, or a secondhand bike advocating a philanthropic cause from Baisikeli, there is no shortage of choices. RECOMMENDED BIKE RENTALS IN COPENHAGEN: Donkey Republic 24/7 Bike Rental - 5 stars Copenhagen Bike Rental - 4.8 stars Copenhagen Bicycle ApS - 4.2 stars Baisikeli - 4 stars beCopenhagen Sightseeing & Bikes - 4.9 stars Bike Rental Copenhagen - 4.6 stars Summertime in Copenhagen makes it one of the best cities in the world. Short lived and with a seasonal bloom. Our summers work as a breath of fresh air from our long winters that seem to last forever sometimes. Sharing our summers with the skateboard world is such a fun thing. Riding bikes around with the Volcom team and just enjoying the warm weather and the energized summer pulse of the city. -Rune Glifberg HIPPIE FREETOWN OF CHRISTIANIA Our hotel was located right next to the train station where there were bikes everywhere, but we were lucky enough to be able to rent bikes from the hotel – all 12 of us! On the first day we were waiting for everyone to get in to town, but we already got our bikes and Collin Provost was ready to explore. First stop?! Christiania! Like travelling back in time, Christiania is like old town Copenhagen which operates on its own rules. A self-governing gypsy village located somewhat on the outskirts of town. It was only a couple miles away which was perfect for a nice little bike ride, and with all of our friends and other skaters coming to town for the contest, it served as the unofficial meeting place all week. Needless to say, everyone on the trip knew the route to Christiania by heart before the trip was over. Bike ownership is pretty loose in Copenhagen and Collin got his bike stolen within the first couple days. No worries though, he just took another bike that seemed unwanted (and unlocked) and really made it his own for the rest of his time in Copenhagen, putting on stickers and tagging it. THE CITY OF COPENHAGEN One of the highlights of riding bikes in Copenhagen with such a big squad is that you can stop and look at whatever interests you along the way without having to find a place to park your car, pile out, and pile back in. One of our European riders Victor “Doobie” Pellagrin was also with us and he doesn’t know how to not have a good time! Romping around on bikes was second nature to him. He mentioned that he used to race motocross as a kid and that his father was a world-renowned racer as well. It all made sense when he was popping wheelies for 50 feet down the road and taking the poor hotel bikes off-roading. The architecture is really something to admire and everywhere we looked we saw some cool building nestled between the busy cobblestone streets. The different building colors, old school architect, and many towers and spires which populate the city give Copenhagen a feel like no other.   "BIKING AROUND THE CITY IS EPIC. AMAZING ARCHITECTURE AND VIEWS CONSTANTLY AND IT'S FASTER THAN DRIVING AROUND IN A CAR. YOU CAN PULL UP TO A SPOT AND BE WARMED UP AND READY TO GO!" -LOUIE

Volcom Skate Team’s Favorite Pieces from the Holiday 2017 Collection
Abandoned pools, rent-a-cops, real cops and more fences than we ever cared to deal with! For the release of our Holiday 2017 Collection, we grabbed a few of our skate dudes and asked them to pick out their favorite pieces. CJ Collins, Dane Burman, Milton Martinez, and Alec Majerus each handpicked their go-tos and we headed off to some skate spots to film them in the gear. Dive in below to watch these mini edits and explore the Holiday '17 Collection. CJ COLLINS We met up with CJ and legendary Steve "Salba" Alba to check out a couple of Salba's secret backyard pools scattered throughout the inland empire. The first pool was small and steep, but CJ is so small that he had no problem putting down some difficult tricks. In the last pool we visited, there was a massive love seat that seemed daunting to say the least. Our anticipation would have been much higher, but with someone like CJ who can spring his way over almost anything, he had no trouble boosting a backside ollie over it. Salba joined in on the action and was seriously impressed with what he saw go down throughout the day. After the two exhausted themselves trying to master the deep end, the crew packed up and had a rewarding early dinner at none other than Chilis. Frickin Modern Chino CJ Collins, grom trash duty DANE BURMAN We picked up Dane at Black Box Distribution in San Diego (where he's currently living on the couch), and kicked around spots to check out. We were trying to film a trick a few weeks with him before the second Wanderlodge trip, and he got hurt, so this session was his first time back. The first spot we found was a gap to rail, but we got kicked out so we decided to come back later when the place was closed. We drove around for awhile and checked out more spots, but they were either too big or there was another obstacle in our way. Eventually, we made it to a school where there were a few solid handrails, but fences plagued the areas so we moved on. He hopped a fence and found these cool trees that he could ollie through, but thought the gap was too long. Luckily, there was a grate in front of one that he could prop up with a skateboard and launch off of. He attempted the tree ollie a few times, but came up short. He was motivated to conquer the trick, so he kept trying, again and again, and even with the tight squeeze between the branches, he ended up stomping the trick with ease just before we were to head off to another spot. Frickin Regular Chino Pants Dane Burman strategizing his tree ollie MILTON MARTINEZ Milton wanted to skate the first spot we found because he said he wanted to "go fast and fly." Alex, part of the Volcom crew, brought his Harley to tow him in to a huge gap jump, but we ended up having the cops called on us and Milton couldn't get the trick down before we got told to leave. Although, he did get a kickflip melon pretty quick while the cops were in route. That spot was fun, but illegal, so we went to another spot Milton could get towed in to by the Harley. The route to tow in at this new spot was narrow and not really enough room to completely stop, so he had to ride through the grass to make it work. Milton ollied off the bump all the way to the street in under an hour, and when we were filming all the b-roll stuff, Alex caught a patch of soft grass and crashed his motorcycle. Luckily, he wasn't hurt and his bike wasn't too busted, so we ended up fitting it in the back of the van and headed out. Kneon Nights T-shirt Milton Martinez taking a breather ALEC MAJERUS We rolled up on a spot w/ Alec, saw some huge stairs, and knew someone had to do it, and that someone was Alec. The photographer, Swainston, wasn't too familiar with Alec, so he wasn't expecting anything gnarly, but that's exactly what he got. When he realized Alec was going for an ally-oop backside flip over the stair rail, he knew he had to buckle down and be ready to nail the shot. Alec took some beatings, but kept a determined and motivated vibe alive. He nailed it, and so did Swanston. Frickin Modern Chino Pants Alec eyeing up a rail

Interview with Alec Majerus on Cancel History
About a month or so ago we had an idea to have a skateboarder, surfer and snowboarder do all 3 board sports in the same day to celebrate the release of our Cancel History collection. Southern California is one of the few places where we could actually pull this off, so we enlisted skateboarders Alec Majerus, Omar Hassan, legendary snowboarder Jamie Lynn and surfer Noa Deane to hit the slopes of Mt. High, waves of Newport Beach and our very own skatepark here at Volcom HQ. Outfitted in original Volcom tee designs from the 90's it was just like the old days, 20 plus years later, but the vibe and true Volcom spirit was still the same. Snowboarding, surfing and skateboarding in the same day is no easy task, so we decided to have a brief chat with Alec Majerus, who he was actually snowboarding up in Big Sky, Montana with his family, to get his take on the day. Hey Alec, how is it going what you been up to? Good man, just been skating and snowboarding a lot lately. We know your rip on a skateboard, but how long have you been snowboarding and surfing? I've been snowboarding since I was like 8. I've only surfed a few times though Alec spraying powder at Mt. High I heard you and your friends were psyched on snowboarding, surfing and skating in the same day, have you ever tried to do that before? Nah I haven't done that before. It's always been a goal of mine. What was the hardest part? The snowboarding, surfing or skating? The surfing was so hard because the waves were pretty big and I was getting smoked Noa Deane and Alec getting ready to surf. How much did you snowboard back home in Minnesota? I used to do a lot of backyard snowboarding growing up because I couldn't skate. A lot of people say snowboarding and skateboarding are very similar but still different, what are your thoughts? Do you find snowboarding easier since you rip so hard on a skateboard? Yea I think if you can skate you can easily learn to snowboard and vice versa You’ve skated some pretty monster rails but have you ever hit one on a snowboard? Yea I lipslid and 5050 on a 16 when I was younger Noa, Alec and Omar post surf sesh I remember you were living in a studio apartment in Huntington Beach with all your Minnesota homies for a minute. Did you ever surf when you were living by the beach? Nah, I didn't surf until I moved to Costa Mesa. Wish I would have took advantage of that though! Between the dudes you did this epic day with, Jamie Lynne, Noa Deane and Omar Hassan, who were you more impressed with as far watching them do a board sport they’re not known for? Noa said he had never snowboarded before and we took him to the top and he did it without falling. I was tripping on that. After snowboarding and surfing Alec still had enough fuel in the tank to pop off the walls. Lastly, what do you got planned for the rest of 2017? Aren’t you putting working on a homie video? I don't know man, the homie bailed back to Minnesota and is over filming so that's botched. Filming a part with Ant Travis though.
