El Roquete never disappoints!

The North Tenerife spot delivered rippable walls and sunshine for the first Volcom Surf Happening physical competition after two seasons of digital only battles.

Despite the 20sec huge swell clearing out all the area, the left pointbreak provided a somehow sheltered arena for the event to run.

Yes, there was a bunch of cleaning sets and a lot of paddling but some of the best up and coming European surfers handled it like champs and put on a good show.

The fresh and original format with no eliminations let them give their best throughout three rounds.

In the 16 and under years old* men division, standout surfers were Alejo Valido from Lanzarote taking home the best wave of the day prize and Axel Domingez (photo) from France being his runner up but also taking “best trick” prize and “competitors pick” with consistence and flair. 

Honorable mentions to Dominican but Portugal based Francisco Anglani, Makoa “chacho” Gomez and Jorre Claeys from Belgium…

The 16 and under years old* women division was outstanding, with fierce competition, some solid maneuvers and great styles, navigating through the heaviest sets without a cringe.

Better keep an eye on young Spanish surfer Carla Morera (photo), style not being a matter of age and taking home the “Best wave” of the day, right in front of Adriana Hidalgo who also took home the “Best trick” and “competitors pick”.

Clemence Schorsch from France didn’t let go and finally got to express herself in the last round with a mean hack getting her the Best trick prize.

Another standout was Canarian surfer Sol Borelli who took the second “competitors pick” prize with super consistent surf all day.

We also got to mention Portuguese ripper Lua Escudeiro for her performance and elegant surfing and Basque powerhouse Saioa Ortega slicing the open faces.

As usual winners got covered with prizes from Volcom and its partners Woodbrass, Captain Fin, Electric and Amazinc! and the day ended with a good old barbecue and the 3POD MIX (Yael Peña, Issam Auptel, Diogo Martins) video screening.

A huge thanks to the surfers and parents for attending the event, to the Volcom staff, everyone from the Ayuntamiento de La Laguna, Federacion Canaria de Surf and the locals to help make it happen.

Online Qualifier event is now over and we've seen entries from all over Europe, the future looks bright! Big thanks to all entrants!

Our judges had some work done and scored each surfer best maneuver and top wave from competitor’s Instagram submissions.

Volcomgratulations to the top 20 Women and Men who qualify to the main event (Punta del Hidalgo in Tenerife)!

Next 10 surfer of each division will be on the main event alternate list and will be notified ASAP if spots are available.
